Why subscribe?

I started this newsletter as a way to share experiences and insights with friends and family and other people in my communities, both physical and far-flung. And I’m thrilled when it helps connect me with like-minded people who I haven’t previously met.

Please be advised: I’m into a lot of different things—opera, books, Broadway, ballet, church, art and antiques, nostalgic sitcoms like The Golden Girls, drag shows. So if you are looking for consistency or something predictable this is not the newsletter for you! I used to be self-conscious about this fact about myself, but now that I’m in full middle age I’ve decided I am not bothered by it. Also, I’m always thinking and talking about politics, so you’ll definitely see that show up, because how can you not talk about politics in our present moment?!

Over the last several years I’ve been reading and writing a lot about education and race and weighty topics, and I am also using this as a forum to work through some of the topics and issues I’ve been confronting about my background and identity, but in a way that encourages deep reflection rather than click or rage-bait.

Subscribing helps me understand who is a regular reader and wants to stay connected! As of now I am not pay-walling any of my content, but if you feel like pledging future support it is appreciated! If you subscribe you can always access past posts in the publication archives.
